Mexico Health Secretariat Releases Number of Infected by Zika and Chikungunya

The number of native Zika infections in Mexico reaches 162 cases while 11,527 have contracted Chikungunya

The Health Secretariat, through the General Directorate of Epidemiology, confirmed a total of 160 native cases of infections due to the Zika virus in Mexico, of which 30 are pregnant women.

In its weekly release, the Secretariat pointed out that Chiapas is the state that reports the most cases, with 82, while Oaxaca registers 59, Guerrero 7, Nuevo León 4, Jalisco 2, and Michoacán, Nayarit, Sinaloa, Tabasco Veracruz as well as Yucatán have recorded one each.

The General Directorate of Epidemiology detailed that, in the case of infected pregnant women, 24 are from Chiapas, 5 from Oaxaca and one from Veracruz.

As to the Chikungunya fever, those infected rise to 11,577 and four deceased in the last weeks, with week 10 registering 182 infected but no deaths.

The most affected states are: Veracruz with 2,000 cases; Yucatán, 1,627: Oaxaca, 1, 190: Michoacán, 606; Guerrero, 1,673: Colima, 981 and Chiapas, 683.
