Senator Fernando Herrera Ávila, of the National Action Party (PAN), said that he would go to great lengths to defend the leader of his party, Ricardo Anaya, from accusations that Anaya’s family lives a luxurious life in the United States.

Herrera Ávila, who represents the state of Aguascalientes in the Senate, said that the criticisms of Anaya are the result of Anaya’s electoral successes.

“He is my president,” said Herrera Ávila. “I have seen his professional development. He is an honest man. You can see his public declarations and audit them. He is beyond reproach. He is a man of integrity, he is a man who has led the National Action Party to its best political moment and who knows exactly what he needs to do so that we win in 2017 and take back the presidency in 2018.”

Herrera Ávila blamed the PRI and the PRD for the attacks against Anaya.
