Alternative routes to avoid the procession include Eje 5 Sur, Eje 3 Oriente, Avenida Tláhuac, Canal de Gary and Anillo Periférico

The Public Security Secretariat of Mexico City (SSP-CDMX) urged citizens to consider the road conditions on Thursday and Friday in the vicinity of the Iztapalapa, due to the annual Passion of Christ reenactments.

With the closure of roads in Iztapalapa and surroundings areas, the SSP-CDMX Traffic Center recommended alternative routes to avoid the procession, such as Eje 5 Sur, Eje 3 Oriente, Avenida Tláhuac, Canal de Gary and Anillo Periférico.

In order to protect the two million people who are expected to come to the Passion of Christ performance, on Palm Sunday the Iztapalapa delegation activated security services and enhanced surveillance.

Iztapalapa general directorates and coordinations, the Mexico City government, the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office and the Mexico City Public Safety Secretariat are working together until April 15 to ensure safety.

During the days of the reenactment, at least 10,000 uniformed officers will participate.

Although this year there will be no “dry law” enforced, there will be operations to remove opportunistic shops selling alcoholic beverages on public roads.
