Mexico City officials open up debate about transparency and human rights

Xóchitl Gálvez, Miguel Hidalgo borough deputy, asked to open up a debate, with the Mexico City Human Rights Commission, about the use of the Periscope application to document operations carried out in the delegation.

In an interview with Adela Micha, Gálvez said, “I want to open up a debate. I think that in five years we are going to laugh about this because, who can stop social networks? People post a lot of information about themselves on social networks.”

The Mexico City Human Rights Commission asked officials to not publicize person information about people, in order to avoid them being victims of violence on social networks. The organization said that these acts are violations of human rights.

Gálvez said that the law supports the use of Periscope in operations and hopes that the app will “document the activities of the borough.”
