Airport Cannot Be Demolished After Suspension of Operation

The Communications and Transportation secretary said it is very premature to analyze what would be the future for the site now occupied by the air terminal

MEXICO CITY – Head of the Communications and Transportation Secretariat (SCT), Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said that the facilities of the current Mexico City International Airport cannot be demolished once its operations are suspended.

It is very premature to analyze what would be the future target for the site now occupied by the air terminal, the site has been federal property for over 60 years, he said.

Ruiz Esparza insisted that there is no budget this year for the expansion works of Line A of the Public Transport System, a the project slated for development in 2017.

Before the last budget cut, in which the SCT was left with 12 billion pesos, the official announced that investment in the next works are expected to be up to 70 percent of the budget
