The program will also set forth an operation protocol to deal with potentially dangerous situations for journalists

President Enrique Peña Nieto stated on Wednesday that the Mexican Government is ready to act with full force and determination to capture and prosecute the people responsible for the murders of journalists and announced a series of provisions to be undertaken nation-wide.

After a moment of silence in memory of the journalists killed on the job, President Peña Nieto announced the launch of the Actions for Free Speech and the Protection of Journalists and Activists program which, he stated, will strengthen the structure and improve the budget allocated for the protection of journalists and human rights activists.

The program will also set forth a collaboration scheme among states, an operation protocol to deal with potentially dangerous situations for journalists and will strengthen the capacity of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Freedom of Expression.
