Rommel Pacheco Wins Gold at FINA Diving World Cup in Río de Janeiro

Rommel Pacheco won the gold medal in the three-meter springboard final at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup and celebrated by singing the Mexican national anthem.

After overcoming a second-place finish in the semifinals, Pacheco opened the last stage of the competition positioned at the head of the standings from the first jump, a position he lost only twice; after his final appearance on the springboard he had a score of 504.40.

The silver medal went to the Jamaican Roshen Yona Knight-Wisdom with 459.25 points, while third place went to American Kristian Ipsen with 457.60.

The Mexican Rodrigo Diego López finished in eleventh place with 403.60 points.

In the morning session, Dolores Hernández (321.70) and Melany Hernández (291.15) were among the 18 divers who will advance to the semifinal of the individual three-meter springboard ending up in seventh to 15th places, respectively.

With this result, the Mexicans added two more Olympic places for a total of six in this World Cup, those Mexicans who will attend the 2016 Summer Olympics in Río de Janeiro, Brazil, with eleven of a possible 12 places.
