SALVADOR, Brazil — Mexico and Germany tied 2-2 in the first round of Group C of men’s soccer in the Olympic Games. The match was at the Arena Fonte Nova stadium in Salvador.

The Mexican team seeks to defend its Gold Medal from the London 2012 Games. Oribe Peralta and Rodolfo Pizarro scored in the 51st and 61st minutes respectively. Germany’s two goals came from Serge Gnabry in the 59th minute and Mathias Ginter in the 78th minute. Mexico and Germany each gained a point in Group C.

Mexico took the lead 1-0 in the second half with when Lozano’s corner kick reached Oribe Peralta, who beat the defense to score a header past goalie Horn.

Mexican Hirving Lozano had shots on goal in two occasions, one of which came in the 74th minute and would have put Mexico up 3-1.
