President Peña Nieto invited Mexican athletes who participated in the 2016 Olympic games to Los Pinos to hear their perspectives on national sports policy

In a private ceremony at the Los Pinos presidential residence, President Enrique Peña Nieto met with the Mexican athletes who participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The President made statements on social networks saying that the meeting was called to hear the concerns of the athletes and their suggestions to improve Mexico’s performance in international sporting events. The Mexican government’s sports policy was criticized after the Mexican Olympic team performed poorly at the Rio games.

“Today, I invited the athletes who competed in the Rio Olympics to hear their needs, experiences, and to understand what works and what doesn’t work in sports policy,” Peña Nieto wrote on his Facebook page. “I recognize their valor, courage and talent, and I admire their discipline and dedication. I hope they know that all of Mexico is proud of them, and that they have my support to continue on the path they have chosen.”
