Walls & Bridges

Big Mouth Donald trumpeted Tuesday night after his Nevada GOP caucus win that he will build a wall with Mexico, and that “I’ve talked to Mexicans and they would be delighted to pay for it.” Count on that, Mr. Trump.

But hear ye, this is not the attitude the Obama administration is taking. Rather, the opposite is true.

Just last Saturday Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was on the two Laredos border to commemorate the 119 year-old tradition of unity celebrating the joint construction of the now ancient Lincoln-Juárez Bridge over the Rio Bravo or Grande.

Secretary Johnson said:

“This bridge and this ceremony are both a real and symbolic sign of the enduring friendship between the people of the United states and the people of Mexico. We are building more bridges between the United States and Mexico. We are building bigger, wider and a stronger bridge … the ceremony that occurs on this spot every year, is the symbolic and real nature of our relationship, our friendship, and our respect for each other.”

Trump also heard an earful from Pope Francis who said that those who propose the construction of walls between nations “are not Christian.”

Of course nowadays Trump is a loose cannon and says stupidities right and left, and there is no doubt that there is a portion of the Grand Old Party membership that pays heed to his claims that Mexicans, and Obama, are to blame for U.S. woes, whatever they may be.

Racism anyone?

Absolutely, but worst still, if elected, Trump will be divisionism.
