Sowing Hatred

Are U.S. presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders unlikely bed fellows?

Damn right they are as they both want to build a wall.

But at the same time they both will be losers when the time comes as for sure the people of the US are saying, Fortress America Never Again. And it is Fortress America what Trump and Sanders are preaching.

During last Sunday’s Democratic Party debate with Hillary Clinton, Sanders blasted the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership for delivering American jobs “to Mexico and China.”

Neither of these two gentlemen understand that the winds of world trade have changed radically over the past 20 years, and even if it would be nice for the U.S. to return to post-World War II days of booming economics, that is just not possible anymore.

In Trump’s case, his growing paranoia led him two weeks ago to scream “they come from Mexico” when a group of aired protesters were in one his rallies to protest against the neo-fascism and racist bigotry he represents.

It also must be granted to Trump for the awakening of that dormant monster we once knew as Nixon’s “Silent Majority,” which now and then reacts to the antics of a raving maniac like Trump.

But he’s also awakened the wrath of people in Mexico as it was the case two weeks ago of former president Vicente Fox, who in reaction to Trump’s border long wall, which Trump says he’ll force Mexicans to pay for, used a very undiplomatic type of language angrily exclaiming on open television that “I’m not going to pay for that fucking wall.”

President Enrique Peña Nieto on Sunday showed deep concern for the tone Trump and Sanders have taken against Mexico, he said that he would not let Trump or Sanders bounce off him offenses. Plus, rightly so, Peña Nieto hinted these fellows had no authority, “they are only candidates.”

In fact, when Trump first became a loose cannon against Mexico last September, Peña said he was not going to provide the fat chicken for Trump to make soup. He then used the word “caldo gordo” (fattened broth), something he would not cook for Trump.

The one achievement the Trump-Sanders duet is achieving in Mexico is sowing a seed of hatred against their campaigns.
