Jail Time Aids PRI

Actor and movie director Sean Penn and the famous Kate del Castillo are being investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).

It couldn’t be any other way after The New York Times published that Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was interviewed for an exclusive in Rolling Stone magazine. And it is now known, according to consulted sources, that the drug lord had plans to shoot an autobiographical film, information about which served to reveal the whereabouts of the most-wanted man on Earth.

Everything indicates that he will be extradited from Sinaloa to the United States, where he will doubtlessly be tried for homicide, which will be punished by the death penalty. And obviously Penn and Castillo will be detained in the next few hours and severely sentenced.

The news of the capture of the most famous drug trafficker on the planet, who assured us in his own words that he has, “submarines, ships, trucks and planes” and that he is, “the main distributor of pot and coke on the globe,” represents a great relief for the Mexican government led by Enrique Peña Nieto. Everyone said that it would be impossible, that he would kill himself before allowing to be captured, or better yet that he would die in the crossfire.

The event without a doubt benefits the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), coming as it does after the international shame the party suffered when he escaped. Even the opposition has congratulated Peña Nieto. Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) leader Agustín Basave’s tweet, “it would be mean to not give the authorities proper recognition for the recapture of ‘El Chapo,’ but it would be irresponsible to not ask for a change,” will surely go down in history.

So, with this great event, the second part of Enrique Peña Nieto’s term begins. And in a few days, another smile will be drawn on his face with the triumph of Ignacio “Nacho” Peralta of Colima (the first of the elections this year, which is the precursor to succession in 2018).

It is also well known that a pair of governors will go to jail very soon, which gave the green light on the anti-corruption campaign, one of the great pending issues of the current administration. So, with energy and force, the president begins the last half of his time in office, and there’s no doubt that this will translate into trust and hope for millions of Mexicans that wait for politicians and citizens to come together.
