Votes for Mayor of Centro, Tabasco to be Counted this Week

This Wednesday, the vote-counting process began for the special election for mayor of Centro municipality (Villa Hermosa), which took place on Sunday, March 13.

The president of the Electoral Institute and Citizen Participation of Tabasco (IAPCT), José Pérez Uc, will verify that the results reported by each of the 792 voting stations match the original ballots.

In the morning of Monday, March 15, the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP) was closed. According to the PREP, with 94.82 percent of ballots counted, Gerardo Gaudiano Rovirosa, the candidate for the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and the Labor Party (PT), had won with 43.16 percent of the vote, or 74,881 votes.

The candidate for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), Octavio Romero Oropeza, won 44,392 votes, or 25.54 percent.

The candidate for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the Green Party (PVEM) and the New Alliance Party, Liliana Madrigal Méndez, came just behind the Morena candidate with 44,309 votes, or 25.54 percent.

The independent candidate, Pedro Contreras, won 2,677 votes, or 1.54 percent. The candidate for the Humanist Party, Flor de Liz Montero, who ended her campaign near the election to endorse the PRI-PVEM-Nueva Alianza candidate, won 743 votes, or 0.43 percent. Unreadable votes and spoiled ballots accounted for 0.51 and 3.23 percent, respectively.

The official counting process will end when the validity of PREP count is verified.
