MEXICO CITY – The vice-coordinator of Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) deputies, Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín, said that U.S. authorities should give an explanation for the early release of drug trafficker Jesús Héctor ‘El Güero’ Palma.
Palma Salazar, one of the main leaders of the Sinaloa cartel in the 1990s, was extradited in 2007 to the United States and convicted and sentenced there to 16 years in prison, but will be released in June for good behavior after spending nine years in prison.
This case is, said the PRI deputy, “Another example of the uneven application of the law in Mexico and the United States, and an example of how, in my opinion, we are not in agreement, of how we are being asked here to treat drug traffickers, and there is provided another.”
“The question here is how does this leave Mexican society, the victims of crimes committed by ‘El Güero’ Palma, people who were affected within this country by his activities. After that happened in Mexico, forgiveness and freedom is granted by the United States,” Ramírez Martín continued.
Separately, the coordinator of National Action Party (PAN) deputies, Marko Cortés Mendoza stressed that the release of ‘El Güero’ Palma in the United States “is a decision that lies in another country” and hoped that it “is attached to law.”
The PAN deputy said that his party will seek from Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman Loera “To clarify everything have left to clarify here in Mexico, to leave us all the information he has in respect to their operation networks and influence.”
