The award is given in recognition for his work in sustainable development and economic and political ecology.

For his contribution to the social and environmental sciences, as well as his untiring fight to improve the living conditions for contemporary societies, the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) will award and honorary doctorate to Mexican academic and activist Enrique Leff, one of the most recognized experts in the field of social-environmental sciences.

During the April university council’s ordinary session, led by rector Jorge Olvera García, the urban and regional planning, chemistry and geography and the Center for Sustainable Development faculties’ proposal was unanimously approved, because of Enrique Leff’s standing as one of the most recognized social leaders, both nationally and internationally, for his work in ecological economy and politics.

Leff has published over 30 books, making him a reference in themes such as sustainability and political ecology. He has also received national and international awards for being an academic who promotes knowledge and social and environmental causes, as well as the search for scientific progress and the common good.

The session also served to present the mobility app Potrobús, which is designed to simplify the use of university school transport, allowing users to consult routes, schedules, university sites, and locate the nearest stop via GPS.
