UAEM Student Takes Second Place in Horse Training Competition

Jessica Chávez Cárdenas Chantres competed on a Portuguese Lusitanian horse

With a score of 62.3 percent, Jessica Chávez Cárdenas Chantres, student in the Veterinary Medicine Department at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) took second place in the Training category of the Sixth Metropolitan Horse Training Championship. The competition was held at the San Juan Ranch Equestrian Center in Atizapán de Zaragoza.

During the final day of competition, riding the Portuguese Lusitanian horse named H. Institutense, Chávez Cárdenas carried out a clean routine in three competition areas.

Accompanied by her trainer José Luis Padilla, she thanked UAEM Rector Jorge García Olvera and the university sporting programs for their support.

Following the formal competition, the event opened up to horses that are not yet registered in the Mexican Equestrian Federation, and 66 riders took part. Chávez Cárdenas repeated her routine and was able to identify several areas for improvement in future competitions.

She said that this win will allow her to enter two more competitions, and in December once her horse is registered in the Federation, the next Metropolitan Competition.
