UAEM: Humanities Department Successful

Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) Rector Jorge Olvera García said that the humanities department is a very strong asset to the university, when it comes to academic and intellectual practices. He led the Second Annual Activities Report, carried out by Humanities department Director Hilda Fernández Rojas.

Humanities are at the core of any public university, said Olvera García. This year, the humanities department community won several important awards, including the “2015 Fernando Rosenzweig” award given by the Mexican History Association, and the “Javier Clavijero” award given by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

Olvera García congratulated academic Francisco Javier Beltrán Cabrera for his investment in the Mexican Language Academy, which helped place UAEM as one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Some of last year’s achievements by the Humanities department include the release of the book “El caudillo del sur: forjador de la nación mexicana” (“The Commander of the South: Shaper of the Mexican Nation”) edited by René García Castro and Ana Lidia García Peña.

A total of 696 Humanities department students received scholarships. Undergraduate students participated in foreign exchange programs, studying in Brazil, Spain and Peru. Postgraduate students created professional research connections with experts from Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain and Italy. In addition, faculty members participated in academic events in France, Italy, Austria, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Peru.
