The University Council, led by Rector Jorge Olvera García, at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) unanimously agreed to create a doctorate degree in parliamentary law. The council also designated new directors for the Political and Social Sciences and Urban and Regional Planning departments.
A doctorate in parliamentary law, the only of its kind in Mexico, will be part of the Law Department. The goal in having this new degree option is to provide useful tools in executing legislative tasks. Participants will gain the ideal education to work as leaders, legislative commission advisors and political party advisors.
In March’s Ordinary Session at UAEM, Olvera García swore in Marco Aurelio Cienfuegos Terrón as the new director of the Political and Social Sciences department. Juan Roberto Calderón Maya was sworn in as the new Urban and Regional Planning department director. Both new directors will lead their departments from 2016-2020.
Cienfuegos Terrón has his master’s in public administration, has experience in teaching and has been a part-time professor since 2008. He also is the author of a book and has written five articles.
Calderón Maya has a doctorate in urbanism, has been a professor since 2001, has participated in various research projects and has written a book. He has also written 10 articles, 10 book chapters and is a member of the National Researchers System.
After swearing in the new directors, the rector announced that for health reasons the current director of the Agricultural Science department, Edgar Morales, will leave his post for 45 days. The council decided to put Omar Franco Mora in charge during his leave.
