U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Visits Mexico

MEXICO CITY — The U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, Ira Forman, visited Mexico City from July 20-22 to meet with members of the Mexican Jewish community, leaders from both the Catholic and Protestant church, civil society groups, and government representatives who share the mission of fostering interfaith understanding and mutual respect.

Specifically, Mr. Forman met with representatives of the Central Committee of the Jewish Community in Mexico, the Jewish World Congress, and the Israeli Tribunal. Special Envoy Forman met with the National Council to Prevent Discrimination, the Undersecretary of Migration, Population, and Religious Affairs at SEGOB, and the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights at SRE, to discuss topics of mutual interest. In addition to a human rights roundtable with local civil society organizations and evangelical community leaders, Special Envoy Forman spoke with Monsignor Gerardo Miranda and Cardinal Norberto Rivera of the Catholic church in Mexico. At the conclusion of his visit, Mr. Forman toured Mexico City’s Museum of Memory and Tolerance with museum director Sharon Zaga.

Sworn in to his current post on May 20, 2013, Mr. Forman has accumulated 30 years of experience in public service and Jewish communal work.
