U.S. Issues New Travel Alerts for Mexico

The U.S. government has issued an alert for U.S. citizens traveling and living in Mexico, regarding the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Colima, Guerrero, Quintana Roo and Veracruz, due to the increasing violence.

The U.S. embassy in Mexico said that the updates have been made after a detailed evaluation of the region and that they are not in any way a reflection of the relation between the two countries.

The National Statistics and Geography Institute (INEGI) said that in 2016 there were 23,953 homicides in Mexico, while 2011 still remains the most violent year with 27,213.
