Trailers Protest Increase in Gasoline Prices

About 50 trailers were placed this morning in a lane of the National Highway, near the municipality of Santiago, in Monterrey, Nuevo León in protest of the increase in gasoline prices.

The peaceful demonstration stretched for more than a mile, reaching the town of La Rioja, where the trailers were left in the emergency lane and edge of the road, which did not obstruct traffic.

“Total refusal of fuel increase,” read a blanket placed on one side of the trailers which were oriented southwards towards Monterrey. Federal Police and the Civil and Transit Force of Santiago monitored the area.

The drivers announced that they would not move from the site, so as not to create inconveniences for the flow of vehicles.

This demonstration will be accompanied by a scheduled protest by community organizations at 6:00 p.m. in the Macroplaza of Monterrey. They are protesting increases in Nuevo León taxes and increases in energy and gasoline prices.

Caravans of cars will be coming from the University Stadium, the Stadium of Rayados, the San Pedro Auditorium and the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM).
