Before possible adjustments to the labor area of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), resulting from the implementation of the energy reform, the relationship tensed between the United Electrical Workers Union of the Mexican Republic (SUTERM) and the state enterprise.

The leader of the electricians’ union, Víctor Fuentes del Villar, warned its members about the changes that can be implemented in the CFE, so he asked them not to let it take place.

In a letter, Fuentes del Villar asked them to present anything at a meeting which brings adjustments to the working methods and organizational structures proposed, are not already present; and not to allow any adjustment affecting the workforce.

“By this means I instruct that under no circumstances there be submitted to meetings alleged changes arising to the working methods and/or organizational structures of the CFE derived from the energy reform, and also do not permit the application of any of them,” says the letter.

Electrician union members belonging to the Mexican Workers’ Confederation (CTM) denied that there is a total break with the CFE; however, they did not rule out that there are differences with the electricity production company arising from the guidelines of the state energy reform.

For his part, Enrique Ochoa Reza, head of the Commission, reiterated in a tweet that, “The CFE and the SUTERM will continue to work to achieve the best consensus for the benefit of the country, the workers and the company.”

This situation occurred during a time of family tragedy for SUTERM leader, Fuentes del Villar, with the death of his sister Crisitina.

The funeral was attended by the representation of President Enrique Peña Nieto, the secretaries of Treasury, Luis Videgaray, Labour, Alfonso Navarrete Prida, and the operator of CFE, Enrique Ochoa Reza, who expressed condolences to the union leader.

Federal and Victor Fuentes del Villar officials held a brief conversation.

Currently the number of members of SUTERM is 62,900 workers.
