There were 2,187 homicides in September 2016, making it the month with the most homicides in the last two years, according to Francisco Rivas, director of the National Citizen Observatory.
“In the last three months we can see some extreme violence, if we add these three months together, more than 6,400 people have died,” said Rivas.
Rivas highlighted that the states with the most homicides were Colima, Guerrero and Sinaloa.
He added that 142 kidnappings in September were recorded.
The three states with the most kidnappings were Tamaulipas, Zacatecas and Tabasco.
“In spite of ten years of efforts by the Mexican government to reduce violence, September was the month with the most homicides since records have been kept, or since 2014,” said Rivas.
