The president of the Senate’s Special Commission for Violence against Journalist and Media Outlets Brenda Velásquez Valdez demanded that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) investigate the case of Salvador Adame Pardo, who was murdered in Michoacán.
“We demand that the PGR alongside the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE), take on the case and bring those responsible to justice,” said Velásquez Valdez.
Velásquez Valdez said that the commission has filed six requests for information about violence against journalists in Michoacán with the State Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) and with the state’s Human Rights Council (CEDH), from which they “have received no answers.”
Adame Pardo is the 10th journalist murdered since November 2016, and there are still four other missing journalists in Michoacán.
Velásquez Valdez said that State Attorney General José Godoy Martín Castro has declined on four occasions to speak before the Senate about violence against journalists.
