The Interior Secretariat (Segob) declared a State of Emergency in the municipalities Los Cabos, La Paz, Comondú, Loreto and Mulegé, and Baja California Sur due to incoming Hurricane Newton.

Resources from the National Fund for Natural Disasters (Fonden) will be made available to authorities in order to attend to food, health and clothing needs for the affected communities.

Luis Felipe Fuente, of the National Civil Protection Department, confirmed that there have yet to be any injuries in Baja California due to the hurricane.

Although the tropical hurricane could weaken within the next few hours, a state of emergency will remain in effect, in which it is advised to not leave home.
