The Head of PROFECO reminded consumers that check-ups and repairs arising from these situations must be free of charge

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) issued three new quick alerts for possible flaws that may cause accidents in Ford, Volkswagen and Jeep vehicles after the car makers spotted risk factors in the Escape, Tiguan, Passat CC, and Grand Cherokee models which will have to be submitted to further inspections in order to guarantee passenger safety.

The head of the Agency Ernesto Nemer Álvarez stated that the Network of Quick Alerts was issued in compliance with Section 1 of the Federal Act for Consumer Protection which establishes that the protection of the life, health and safety of the consumer must be the basic principles in every consumer rapport.

Nemer Álvarez highlighted the importance of the statements made by the car manufacturers urging vehicle owners to bring their cars to authorized dealerships to undergo risk assessments and the necessary repairs which must be free of charge.

The first alert, issued along with Volkswagen México, involved the 2016 Passat CC and Tiguan models in which the child safety locks could be deactivated due to a flaw in the back door anchors.

The second alert referred to the revision of the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee models which presented a glitch in the electronic gear selector that may cause unwanted motion in the vehicle whenever the motor is running.

Finally the 2008-2011 Ford Escape models were part of the Security Program 1405 set forth by Ford México since it detected a failure on the Electronic Positioning System which may cause the rigidity on the wheel when the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of accidents.
