PRI Wants to Eliminate Public Funding of Political Parties

The Revolutionary Institutional Party (PRI) wants to put forward a reform that would eliminate public funding for political parties.

PRI National Executive Committee (CEN) leader Enrique Ochoa Reza said that if approved, the government could save 20 billion pesos ($1.1 billion) that would be redirected towards communities affected by the September 19 earthquake.

Ochoa Reza also aid that the PRI will also reject any other financial benefits in the rest of 2017, and that if every political party were to also reject these benefits, it would free up billions of pesos that could be destined towards rebuilding efforts.
