PRD Senator Barbosa indicated other governors are likely to be investigated as well

Emilio Gamboa Patrón and Miguel Barbosa Huera, PRI and PRD leaders of the Senate respectively, said that the full weight of the law should be brought against Veracruz governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa, who is under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for embezzlement, illicit income and failure to fulfill his responsibilities as governor.

Both senators were interviewed after completing a bike ride from the National Auditorium to the Senate to mark World Car-Free Day. Gamboa said the Duarte, also of the PRI, will have to face the charges and accusations against him to prove his innocence.

He said that President Enrique Peña Nieto would not intervene on behalf of Duarte, even though he is of the same party.

“Two PRI ex-governors have already gone to jail. The law is equal for all and we have to be respectful.”

Barbosa, of the PRD, said that he was glad the Attorney General’s Office had opened the investigation. He said that he has information regarding PRD and PAN governors who are also likely to be investigated.

“What is currently known is that there will be three investigation, but there should be even more. One is linked to the PRI, one to the PAN and another to the PRD.”
