The parliamentary group of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) demanded President Enrique Peña Nieto to issue a decree to halt the hike in gasoline prices.

After a meeting in the Chamber of Deputies, members of the PRD agreed to form a broader national front to bring the hikes to an end. They also announced the presentation of an initiative to reduce gasoline prices before the Permanent Commission on Thursday. The initiative will request the appearance of the heads of the Treasury and Public Finance (SHCP) and Energy Secretariats as well as Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) to explain the current situation.

The group stated their support to demonstrations and protests across the country against the hike.

Francisco Martínez Neri, coordinator of the PRD faction, said the party  will start, as of Tuesday, a period of resistance to which he expects all leftist parties will join.
