PAN Calls For ‘Urgent’ Environmental Contingency Coordination

The National Action Party in Mexico City called for city authorities and neighboring states to coordinate “urgently” for an environmental contingency, said Secretary General Christian Martín Lujano.

The party ruled that “it does not serve to generate confrontations or debates when it’s required that the Megalopolis Environmental Commission and all groups involved sit at the table to discuss measures to be taken and to establish an agreement for joint actions.”

He said the PAN CDMX is in favor of cars that pollute not being in circulation, and to review that verification centers meet the standard to avoid cases of corruption considering users’ necessity for their vehicles to pass, even older models.

“The cars that pollute, new or older models, must stop circulating,” he said.
He also urged the head of government to push a metropolitan project that actually improves air quality and standardize the existing regulations on the issue.

He noted that the PAN, in the repeal of Double Hoy No Circula, defended citizens for verifying your car was fair and the measure should be amended to stop the circulation of vehicles that are truly contaminating.

“That is not to be confused with metropolitan authorities washing their hands of responsibility for establishing environmental policies,” he said.

However, he said, the city government has a debt to citizens on this issue, because the vehicles of the public transport system, such as contaminating cars of the public administration continue to circulate.
