The Federal Public Security Secretariat (SSP) alongside the Institute for Administrative Certification (Invea) have been targeting unregulated public transport in the borough of Tláhuac in Mexico City for the past week.
Vehicles that don’t have the proper permits to provide public transport have been confiscated, with a focus on the vehicles known as “mototaxis” (motorcycle taxis).
So far, 15 people have been arrested for possession of weapons and drugs.
Mobility Secretary Héctor Serrano Cortés said that there is no possible way to regulate “mototaxis.”
Many motorcycle taxis in Tláhuac are accused of working alongside “El Ojos,” the leader of the Tláhuac Cartel who was killed by police last week during a raid.
