New Hampshire’s Chris Sununu will be Youngest Governor in U.S.

CONCORD, New Hampshire — Republican Chris Sununu first sat in the New Hampshire governor’s seat when his father held the state’s top job in the 1980s. In January, the seat will become his when he’s inaugurated as the nation’s youngest governor.

Sununu turned 42 last week and is seven months younger than Republican Eric Greitens, who was elected governor of Missouri on Tuesday. And he’s two years younger than South Carolina’s Republican Gov. Nikki Haley, who currently holds the “youngest” title.

Sununu’s father, John H. Sununu, served three terms as governor in the 1980s.

While Chris Sununu will be the nation’s youngest governor, he won’t be the youngest ever to serve New Hampshire. That distinction goes to Republican Hugh Gregg, who was 35 when he was elected in 1952.
