The Interior Secretariat (Segob) stated that the New Adversarial Penal System has reached a level of implementation of 73.8 percent regarding population coverage at the local level, representing a figure of 89.3 million people. The constitutional deadline for the implementation of the system will occur in 118 days.

At the federal level, the new penal system will be implemented on Feb. 29 in the states of Aguascalientes, Colima, Ciudad de México, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Morelos, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo and Tabasco. The federal officials in these states are already trained and are working in coordination with local operators.

A priority is to strengthen the training of all operators involved in the processes of administration and enforcement of justice, stated the Segob.

The goal is that all officials act with the utmost respect for human rights so that they can protect the security of both victims and defendants, provide assistance to indigenous groups and attend to women with a gender perspective.
