National Action Party Hopes Arrest of Businessman Links Moreira to Crime

The parliamentary faction of the National Action Party (PAN) in the Chamber of Deputies demanded that the Mexican Embassy in Spain keep out and restrains from intervening in the case of the businessman Juan Manuel Muñoz, aka “The Monkey”, linked with the former governor of Coahuila Humberto Moreira, who was also detained in that country.

Marko Cortés, coordinator of the PAN deputies, hoped that after the arrest of this person the Spanish justice would confirm the alleged link of Humberto Moreira with organized crime. He said that he hoped that the Mexican government, through its Spanish embassy, would not put its diplomatic means at the service of “The Monkey”, as they did with Moreira when he was detained.

“We trust the Spanish justice will confirm the alleged links of Humberto Moreira with organized crime and hope that the Mexican government abstains from putting all its diplomatic means at the service of the former Coahuila governor as was the case recently when Moreira was detained and jailed in that country.”

Cortés Mendoza lamented that while in Spain inquests are still ongoing against the former governor, in Mexico there aren’t even preliminary investigations and impunity is maintained.

However, the PAN representative stated that the arrest of Juan Manuel Muñoz Luevano opened a new chapter in the investigation against Humberto Moreira.
