Mexico’s Health Secretariat Releases Report on Zika

Mexico’s Health Secretariat (SSa) said that there are 222 confirmed cases of Zika in the country, of which 53 are pregnant women.

In its weekly report, the SSa said that the growth is due to the beginning of the summer heat. The rain that is expected of the rest of April could cause the figure to rise further.

The SSa said that Chiapas is the state with the most cases of Zika, with 112, followed by Oaxaca, with 85, Guerrero, with 9, Nuevo León and  Veracruz, with four each, Jalisco and Michoacán, with two each, and Nayarit, Sinaloa, Tabasco and Yucatán with one each.

There were 37 pregnant women affected by the virus in Chiapas, 14 in Oaxaca and 2 in Veracruz.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has established a relationship between the virus and microcephaly.
