Mexico City’s Public Security Secretariat said that 200 people detained during Operation Recuperation of Mobility Spaces last weekend have been brought before a judge. Most of the 200 people are accused of practicing informal commerce on the Metro.
The operation was carried out by 721 officers of the PBI, who randomly searched bags and backpacks to find so-called “vagoneros” and “bocineros,” or people who sell products on the Metro.
The officers were stationed at various stations of lines 1, 2, 3 and 8 of the metro, where they carried out surveillance and random searches to detect irregularities and arrest vendors.
Most of the 200 people arrested are accused of selling various products, including cookies, alegrías, sandwiches, chocolates, gum, peanuts and pirated music; some are accused of jumping turnstiles or drinking alcoholic beverages in the stations.
