Mexican 7.1 Quake Deathtoll Reaches 250

Mexico’s Civil Defense reported that the deathtoll has risen to 250 people as of Thursday morning in the aftermath of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that hit the country’s central region Tuesday afternoon. The report is based on data provided by authorities from the states affected by the earthquake.

Out of the total, 115 deaths happened in Mexico City, 73 in Morelos, 43 in Puebla, 13 in the State of Mexico, five in Guerrero and one in Oaxaca.

Mexico City Mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera Espinosa informed that up to 38 buildings have been severely damaged by the earthquake, with Condesa, Del Valle and Roma being among the most affected neighborhoods.

Also, reports by local news site Animal Político inform of a lack of water affecting 700,000 people in the boroughs of Tláhuac, Iztapalapa and Xochimilco, southeast of Mexico City.
