Martín Guadencio Avendaño Ojeda, alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in Jalisco was recently captured, federal police said Monday. The previous leader of the cartel was Ismael Zambada García.
National Security Commissioner (CNS) Renato Sales Heredia said that Avendaño Ojeda was one of the federal government’s main priorities in the fight against drug trafficking.
He was captured in Zapopan, Jalisco and is believed to have control of the drug trafficking network that operates in that region. The territory is currently under dispute between the Sinaloa Cartel and the New Generation Jalisco Cartel (CJNG).
Avendaño Ojeda is brother of Héctor “El Meño” Manuel who is currently in hiding. The United States has an extradition warrant out for both of them.
