The General Counsel of the Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) is holding a meeting to validate the results of the June 4 election in which Institutional Revolutionary Party’s (PRI) candidate Alfredo del Mazo Maza emerged as a winner.

IEEM advising president Pedro Zamudio Godínez said that this meeting is not a result of political pressure.

“This meeting has been called with the only and firm purpose of obeying the law which is this counsel’s obligation, and it’s not subject to political agendas, fear or threats,” said Zamudio Godínez.

Morena representative Ricardo Moreno Bastida said that Zamudio Godínez is taking unilateral decisions.

“Let me tell you that yours is an authoritarian action. You have the ability, but you’re not willing to hear arguments. You’re not willing to hear that you’re inconsequential in this table, that you’re a joke,” said Moreno Bastida.

Regardless of the decision taken by IEEM today, there are still pending challenges to the election results filed with the Federal Electoral Tribunal.
