Government Continues Actions Against Tepoztlán Fire

The federal government, along with the Morelos state government and the Tepoztlán municipality government, in addition to community emergency brigade members, have been collaborating in order to control the forest fire which began Tuesday in the Hueicantlanti park, located in Tepoztlán.

A helicopter belonging to the State of Mexico government and two others belonging to the Mexico City government have been used in order to douse the area with water and to conduct overflights in order to survey the site.

The State Incident Management Team is in command of the coordination of actions to subdue the fire and has established a base of operations at the Acapantzingo State Emergency and Environmental Contingency Center. There are 202 brigade members in the area and the three orders of government are currently analyzing the possibility of increasing staff.

Among the agencies present are the National Forest Commission (Conafor), the National Commission on Protected Natural Areas (Conanp) and the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena).
