Emilio Gamboa Patrón, Senate coordinator of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, announced that the unified police command would be approved in this parliamentary sessions period, although with significant changes to President Enrique Peña Nieto’s important initiative.

The politician from Yucatán declared that the Committee on Constitutional Matters presided by Enrique Burgos García from the PRI is working on harmonizing the different projects presented by the PAN and PRD to fortify the police system.

Gamboa Patrón guaranteed that before the current parliamentary sessions period concluded on April first, the reform would be approved in the Constitution, albeit with substantial changes.

“There will be changes, as the president said. The reform will be come out with changes made by the senate. What I do want to make clear is that the unified command that the president required will come through”.

For his part, PRD coordinator Miguel Barbosa Huerta recognized that President Peña Nieto’s attitude must be flexible for the proposal to receive the necessary changes it needs to be approved.

“I value the good part which is when he mentions the need to enrich the proposal (…) this means that there will be a debate, and a different product from the one he sent”.

Burgos García added that this week the PRI parliamentary group would meet with senators from the PAN and PRD to find consensus.
