A federal justice issued the fourth amparo (a Mexican constitutional legal process that protects citizens and their basic rights) against speeding tickets issued through photographic evidence, under the claim that they are in direct violation of citizens’ right to a hearing.
In response to this, Miguel Ángel Mancera stated that, if necessary, any revisions or amends to the Regulations of Local Transit will take place after the Court’s final resolution. The Mayor of Mexico City claimed that photographic evidence have been helpful and have saved people’s lives.
“The process cannot be sped up before the definitive resolutions. The aim of photographic evidence is clear: to save lives and improve transit. A clear example of its successful outcome is Viaducto, where speeding has being reduced considerably,” said Mancera.
