The Navy Secretariat (Semar) reported that five navy members involved in the enforced disappearance of one person in the state of Nuevo León in August 3, 2013, were left at the charge of the Third District Court in Criminal Matters.

Semar said it will respect any decision regarding the status of the accused officers. Photo: Notimex.

In a statement, the Semar said that the officers were the target of a formal order of imprisonment between March 8 and 9, 2016, for the crime of enforced disappearance.

The secretariat said that it had collaborated closely with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) since the beginning of the investigation carried out by the latter regarding the crime.

The PGR said that the Semar officers are innocent until proven guilty. Photo: Notimex/José Pazos.

Following the presumption of innocence principle, the officers accused are innocent until a judge declares otherwise.
