Five Killed in Nuevo Laredo

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas – Members of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) were attacked by an organized crime group in Nuevo Laredo during two separate incidents this weekend. Four civilians and one soldier died. Six soldiers were wounded.

The Tamaulipas Coordination Group (GCT) said that the two incidents occurred Sunday night in the border city, while Sedena was carrying out surveillance operations.

The first incident was in the La Fe neighborhood on the western side of Nuevo Laredo, when a patrolling military convoy reported gunfire exchange between two criminal groups.

Near a commercial center, shooters in several vehicles attacked the patrol. One soldier was killed and six were injured.

The second incident took place on Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio and targeted another military convoy. The convoy was attacked by shooters in two vehicles in an unspecified block of the Boulevard. Repelling the attack, the soldiers killed four men in the vehicles, who have not been identified to the press. In addition to the two vehicles, Sedena secured several assault weapons and several rounds of high-caliber ammunition.
