The Mexican president's visit to the United States will concern the new agenda between the United States and Mexico

President Enrique Peña Nieto informed the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union that he will leave the country July 21 and 22 after an invitation from U.S. President Barack Obama to make an official visit to Washington, D.C.

During President Obama’s visit to Mexico in May of 2013, both leaders agreed to establish three mechanisms: the U.S.-Mexico High Level Economic Dialogue (DEAN), the Bilateral Forum on Higher Education, Innovation and Research (FOBESII) and the Mexican-U.S. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council (MUSEIC).

The purpose of the visit is to consolidate the institutionalization of mechanisms that are part of the new agenda between Mexico and the United States.

Presidents Peña Nieto and Obama will overhaul the conditions of the bilateral agenda, including those on the subjects of energy, climate change, competitiveness, migration and security.

The visit of the federal executive takes on special relevance in the context of bilateral relations with the United States, considering that it is the second time both governments have met in less than a month.

The last meeting of the presidents of Mexico and the United States, on the past June 29, was in the setting of the eighth North American Leaders Summit, which was held in Ottawa, Canada
