The National Leader of the PRD urged authorities to take prompt and pertinent actions to bring the escaped governor to justice

The national president of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) Alejandra Barrales Madaleno stated on Tuesday that the avoidance of judiciary processes by former governor of Veracruz Javier Duarte de Ochoa is part of a complex strategy and a “fabrication” carried out by the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and local legislators to conceal Duarte’s acts of corruption.

Barrales added that if the contents of the letter with which Duarte intends to be reinstated to his former position are authenticated, the letter can be considered as a “mockery” and a “provocation” and it may also signal a proper timing for the authorities to proceed with his arrest.

The Congress of Veracruz received a letter on Monday in which the former governor of Veracruz asked to be relieved from his leave of absence in order to resume his tenure. The letter is dated on Nov. 11, 2016 and shows several inconsistencies —namely, Duarte’s signature. The authentication of the document is still under process.

Alejandra Barrales claimed that the actions and strategies of the PRI majority cannot be ignored since they enabled the absence of Javier Duarte. She insisted that the authorities must act promptly in locating Duarte de Ochoa since his good will is not to be counted on.
