Cuauhtémoc Blanco Claims his Signature was Forged in Leaked Document

Cuernavaca Mayor Cuauhtémoc Blanco denied that he was paid by the Social Democratic Party to run for the position he currently holds, and claimed that his signature was forged on an incriminating leaked document.

The document purports to be a contract between Blanco, his representative José Manuel Sanz, and the brothers Julio César Yáñez Moreno and Roberto Yáñez Moreno, both leaders of the Social Democratic Party, in which Blanco agreed to be a candidate for the Cuernavaca mayorship in exchange for 7 million pesos ($376,000). Blanco fired Roberto Yañez Moreno from his post in Cuernavaca city government after corruption allegations against him.

In a meeting with deputies from the Democratic Revolution Party Friday, Morelos Governor Graco Ramírez said that the allegations demonstrate that public figures do not necessarily make good politicians. Ramírez also promised that he would not yield to the growing movement against his governorship, which he characterized as the result of a conspiracy between the Bishop of Cuernavaca and the president of the Autonomous University of Morelos.
