Adelfo Alejandro Gómez, general secretary of the CNTE Section 7, said that he hopes to create a new educational model for the many Mexicos that exist

The educational roundtable got off to a start with officials of Public Education Secretariat (SEP) and the National Coordinator of Educational Workers (CNTE).

By 2:10 p.m., some 30 members of the CNTE national negotiating committee, accompanied by the National Mediation Council (Conamed), had gathered in the Revolution chamber of the Interior Secretariat (Segob).

In brief testimony, the director of the State Coordinator of Education Workers of Guerrero (CETEG), Ramos Reyes, reiterated his principal demand for the repeal of educational reform.

Adelfo Alejandro Gómez, secretary general of Section 7 of the CNTE, which represents teachers in Chiapas, assured that the CNTE also hopes to transform Mexico’s educational model.

“Within this educational transformation we are creating the construction of the educational model required for all the various Mexicos that exist,” he said.

The CNTE and CETEG representatives reiterated that they do not recognize Secretary of Public Education Aurelio Nuño Mayer as a legitimate participant in the negotiations. Nuño Mayer was absent from the meeting.

Participating on behalf of the SEP were undersecretaries Javier Treviño Cantú, Otto Granados Roldán and Rodolfo Turán Gutiérez.

Undersecretary Luis Enrique Miranda represented Segob.
