Climate Conditions Complicate Forest Fire Fighting in Texcoco

Work to contain the forest fire in Texcoco, 20 miles to the northwest of Mexico City, has been hampered due to the weather conditions caused by Cold Front 38.

On Wednesday however, the central part of the country will be affected by a jet stream of hot air that is expected to remain for the next five days and further hamper efforts to combat the fire.

The incident began Sunday night in the San Miguel Coatlinchán area and has been attended by members of the Forest Protection of the State of Mexico (Probosque), the National Forestry Commission (Conafor) and the National Defense Secreteriat (Sedena).

Volunteers from the University of Chapingo, landholders from Coatlinchán, Texcoco and Coatepec Ixtlahuaca, as well as local civil protection and the municipality of Ixtapaluca have also participated.
