Civil Protection Requests Establishing Earthquake Family Plans in Tuxtla Gutiérrez

Civil Protection called on the population to establish family plans, informing the public about the importance of knowing what to do before, during and after an earthquake to protect oneself and one’s family.

After considering Chiapas’ high vulnerability to seismic activity, the agency recommended a plan in which all members of the family know the safe places within the home, evacuation routes and where to meet in the case of being separated in an emergency.

In addition, the Civil Protection Family Plan establishes the inspection of the status of the foundation and construction of the home, the maintenance of water facilities, electricity, gas, as well as furniture that is located inside the house.

In this manner, also designing a simple sketch of the house and its surroundings so that one can identify evacuation routes, safe alternatives, as well as evaluating potential risks with recommendations on how to reduce them.

Civil Protection also stressed the importance of exercises performed at home with the family, and suggests joining the State Simulation 2016, to be held on March 18, with the hopes that these actions can transition into life-saving habits.

For the fourth consecutive year, the government of Chiapas will hold the Civil Protection State Simulation in which they assume the impact of a 7.9 magnitude earthquake.
